East Announcements
5th Grade Classes Study Mysteries
As part of our 5th grade study on Mysteries or “Who-done-its,” the Ankeny Police Department offered their services to talk to our students about solving crimes.  They took us through the step-by-step process on how to gather evidence and develop a suspect list.  Detectives Lampe and Anderson had two fun, crime-solving activities for the students to participate in.  First, they took a gel-print of someone’s shoe.  The students then had to figure out whose it was by the clues.  Second, the student sleuths had to match fingerprints.  To top it all off, students walked through Ankeny’s Crime Scene Investigation van.  Our hope is that this experience increased the students’ ability to use mystery-related vocabulary as well as increase enthusiasm around our mystery novels.

May Kindness
Happy May to everyone! As the school year begins to wind down, we will be making a strong effort to focus on acts of kindness at East Elementary. Beginning on May 4th we will have a kindness tree in the entryway hallway in which students and staff can add leaves each time someone shows them an act of kindness and/or compassion.  We are excited to see how our kindness tree will grow through May! We also have a kickoff assembly on May 4th and dress up days during Wednesdays in May to get students excited as well!

The dress-up days are as follows:

  • Wednesday, May 6th- Career Day
  • Wednesday, May 13th -Mismatch Day
  • Wednesday, May 20th-Favorite Book Character

Finally, sometime during the last two days of school each grade level will celebrate the kindness they received during May!

May Kindness Blossom in East!
