Student Drop-off Reminder
As a reminder, the north side of our parking lot is for school bus and commercial daycare vehicles only.  Although we realize that mornings can be hectic and from time to time, parents are running late, parents should at no time be utilizing this area for dropping children off for school in order to ensure the safety of all students.  Please see East's drop-off and pick-up procedures in their entirety here.

Register for STEM workshop offered for grades 2-5:
Second through fifth graders can explore science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through a workshop on March 7, sponsored by Ankeny Community Education and hosted by the Boys Scouts of America.  Second and third graders will explore activities centered around engineering principles of motion, weights, levers, pulleys and much more.  Fourth and fifth graders will explore activities centered around scientific "rules and principles" and their relation to weather.  Sessions are limited to 30 participants, register here today, select the class Exploring STEM in Ankeny!  For more information view the STEM flier here.

Register today for Safety Town!
It's time to sign up for this summer's Safety Town.  Ankeny Schools Community Education Department will once again sponsor the five-day safety course for children entering kindergarten in the fall.  Students will learn many aspects of safety including: fire, bike, pedestrian & traffic, stranger, poison, weather, pool, internet, camping, bus, playground, gun, seat belt and much more.  Five, one-week sessions are offered, so check your calendar to sign-up for the session that fits your schedule.  View more information and registration form here

Ankeny Schools 2015-2016 calendar on hold:
Approval and publication of the Ankeny Schools 2015-2016 school calendar is currently on hold. Last month we received guidance from the Iowa Department of Education (IDOE) regarding new rules for school start dates. The district is currently reviewing the criteria to make a determination on next year’s calendar.

In December, the IDOE has informed school districts that they will not automatically grant waivers to start the school year early, as in the past.  This clearly has great implications for Ankeny Schools due to the high percentage of students who earn post-secondary dual credits through Advanced Placement (AP) courses.  We apologize for any inconvenience this delay in publication may cause.
