Stomp Out Bullying Week at East

Join us in celebrating National Bullying Prevention month (October) with some fun school-wide activities:

Monday, October 13th   – No School Day for Students (Professional Development Day for Staff)

Tuesday, October 14th  – “Orange” you glad that East students are Safe, Respectful, and Responsible! (Wear Orange)

Wednesday, October 15th   – Bullying and kindness don’t MATCH! (Wear mismatched clothing)

Thursday, October 16th   – “THROW BACK” bullying behavior! (Pick your decade and wear throwback styles)

Friday, October 17th   – How many ways can you “STOMP OUT BULLYING?” (Wear mismatched shoes)


October Artists of the Month
Every month East Elementary features Artists of the Month.  Their work is displayed in the hallway of the main entrance.

Picture Retake Day is October 24th
Picture retakes at East Elementary have been scheduled for Friday, October 24th. This is for students who were absent when pictures were taken in September, for those who forgot their money on picture day, or if their pictures were defective. For a defective picture retake, the entire photo package must be returned to school on or before October 24th and handed to the photographer at the time of the retake. If you require a Lifetouch order form they are available in the office. Payment must accompany the order form to receive photographs. If you have questions please call the East office at 965-9660.

 
Schools to help collect donations of coats for students in need -
Project Fresh Start, an Ankeny-based volunteer program has provided free school supplies, backpacks and more to students for over a decade.  Their new F.E.W.D. Program (Faith and Education Winter Donations) is requesting donations of clean, gently used winter coats, hats, gloves, mittens, scarves and boots for Ankeny students in need. You can bring these donations to your school October 20-24Ankeny students in need of warm winter outer wear will then be able to receive donated clothing 1:00-6:00 PM Sunday, November 2, and 4:00-8:00 PM Monday, November 3, when the FEWD clothing pick-up center will be open at 502 North Ankeny Blvd.  Read more about this project here.

The Community Education Department and the Ankeny Art Center are partnering to bring three art class opportunities to your child on Saturdays!  

  • Art Exploration - children in grades K-8 will create and bring home drawings, paintings, and much more.
  • Pottery Hand Building - children in grades K-4 will roll-out clay, press stamps, and create sculptures to bring home.
  • Pottery Wheel - children in grades 5-8 will learn techniques to create a bowl to be fired and taken home.

Polk County Health flu clinics scheduled at Ankeny schools:
The Ankeny Community School District is again partnering with the Polk County Health Department to provide seasonal flu vaccination clinics in Ankeny Schools October 9 and November 6. The influenza vaccination will be available to all staff and students, and will be open to the public.  Learn more about the flu clinics here.
